LSS Introduction

This course is based on the SOLO level of LSS and is aimed at all new users in all industries. 

The course begins with basic terrain modelling concepts and covers the practical use of the software including: controlling the display; navigating; querying a survey; configuring the survey legend features; editing the survey; annotating; exporting to AutoCAD DXF; updating the prototype survey feature legend.

With hands-on exercises throughout the day. Price per person £175 plus VAT.

Requirements

This is a course for new users. Delegates do not need knowledge of LSS, but should be familiar with Microsoft Windows applications. 

 

What will I learn?

  • Session 1 – Digital Terrain Models and LSS structure and its building blocks; opening, navigating, interrogating a survey.
  • Session 2 – Creating a new survey, inputting model data, controlling the display and configuring and changing the survey feature legend.
  • Session 3 – Adding and inserting features, CAD-Pro part 1, amending, moving, removing observations and Undo commands, adding surfaces.
  • Session 4 – Annotating a survey, updating the prototype survey legend, exporting to DXF and configuring the LSS settings.

LSS Intermediate

This course is based on LSS VISTA and intended for LSS users who have attended the LSS Introduction course. 

The course looks at: converting data from third party software (XYZ and DXF) including introduction to CADxchange; checking, tidying and editing the survey model; basic design for circles, arcs, parallel and variable offsets and digitising; copying data between surveys and models; computing areas and volumes; generating sections and plotting plans and sections; 3D View overview. 

With hands-on exercises throughout the day. Price per person £175 plus VAT.

Requirements

This is a course for users who have attended the LSS Introduction Course. 

 

What will I learn?

  • Session 1 – Creating new surveys and converting XYZ and DXF data files; introducing CADxchnage. 
  • Session 2 – Tidying the survey; removing and amending features; sorting Overlays; CAD-Pro part 3; designing circles and arcs.
  • Session 3 – Simple design procedures; parallel and variable offsets; digitising; copying data between DTMs; computing areas and volumes.

LSS for Engineering Surveyors

This course is based on LSS VISTA and is targeted at Engineering Surveyors who have attended the LSS Intermediate Course and have some experience in using LSS.

It covers: configuring LSS for survey dataloggers with processing some engineering examples – resection and meaning hanging legs; converting csv file and LandXML with an alignment; converting 2-D DXF to 3-D data; finding the cut / fill balance level; computing volumes without and with surface depths; creating a formation model and exporting design data to dataloggers.

With hands-on exercises throughout the day. Price per person £175 plus VAT.

Requirements

This is a course for users who have attended the LSS Intermediate and ideally have some experience in using LSS.

 

What will I learn?

  • Session 1 – Configuring LSS for dataloggers; downloading / converting survey data for processing; resection and multiple target examples.
  • Session 2 – Converting third party data – XYZ, LandXML and 2-D DXF; converting 2-D DXF data to 3-D LSS load format. 
  • Session 3 – Changing the 2-D observations to the 3-D levels; changing levels to required values; finding the balance cut / fill level; adding surface depths.
  • Session 4 – Computing Areas and Volumes without and with depths; designing the Formation Model; exporting for setting out and Machien Control.

LSS with 3D Vision

This course is based on the LSS VISTA (or ELITE) with Point Cloud Licence and is aimed at new and existing users of LSS.

The course introduces LSS 3D Vision as a standalone program, including the importing of Point Cloud Data (from terrestrial scanners or UAVs);
Navigating through the Point Cloud and overdisplaying the LSS DTM; the Searchphere and filter box tools and the digitising of features into an LSS DTM;
Splitting the 3D Vision screen to show the slice option and using LSS SPF for sections and multi-link feature digitising; Terrain extraction for creating DTM;
Floor Plans and  Elevation Surveys. 

With hands-on exercises throughout the day. Price per person £175 plus VAT.

Requirements

This is a course for users who have attended the LSS Introduction Course, or have LSS experience and need to work from Point Cloud data. 

 

What will I learn?

  • Session 1 – Navigating in LSS 3D Vision and the layout and tool commands; importing point cloud data in e57 format.
  • Session 2 – Making use of the filter box, searchphere and blend options; connecting LSS 3D Vision with LSS and digitising.
  • Session 3 – Adjusting digitised and adding new observations with LSS CAD-Pro; using the slice and section commands. 
  • Session 4 – Using the LSS multi-feature and terrain extraction methods; the LSS 3D Vision slice mode for floor plans and elevations.

LSS Advanced

This course is based on the advanced functions in LSS ELITE and is aimed at LSS users who have attended the LSS Intermediate Course and have experience in using LSS.

The course covers: sidewall, template and longitudinal design commands; merging designs into surrounding terrain; advanced volumes; isopachyte modelling; adjusting models for settlement or required volume; volumes with surface depths and zero Isopachyte boundaries.

With hands-on exercises throughout the day. Price per person £175 plus VAT. 

Requirements

This is a course for users who have ttended the LSS Intermediate and have some experience in using LSS.

What will I learn?

  • Session 1 – Designing simple and benched slopes; adding surfaces by slopes and reporting volumes; advanced volumes options.
  • Session 2 – Merging design models into surrounding terrain, designing a longitudinal gradient and access ramp using LSS templates. 
  • Session 3 – Designing simple slopes up / down; isopachyte analysis; designing pre and post-restoration contours; adjusting for required volume.
  • Session 4 – Designing a platform at balanced cut / fill; side slopes and gradients by template files; finding the cut / fill boundary; computing volumes with depths.

LSS Visualisation

This course based on LSS VISTA and is aimed at LSS users who have attended the LSS Introduction course.  

The course covers: Reviewing the LSS Legend for heighted and textured features; creating DTMs from converted gridded XYZ data; adding a photo background; the settings in LSS 3-D View for realistic viewing; working towards fly-through presentations and photomontages for proposals and planning applications.

What will I learn?

  • Session 1 – Reviewing the LSS legend for heighted features; adding textures to features and setting widths; the background image in 3D View. 
  • Session 2 – Creating a new survey and converting gridded XYZ data; viewing the survey model in virtual reality and settings; integrating digital photography. 
  • Session 3 – Adding heighted features into a DTM, adding surfaces; using the CAD-Pro commands; creating a mixed woodland from multiple observations.

LSS Visual Impact

This course is based on the LSS ELITE and is aimed at LSS users who have attended the LSS Visualisation course. 

The course covers: Reviewing the LSS legend for heighted features; converting OS Open Esri Ascii data; creating a map background; adding design or proposed features; followed by determination of Zones of Visual Intrusion (ZVI) and Zones of Theoretical Visibility (ZTV). This will be of use to consultants who are involved in planning applications.

What will I learn?

  • Session 1 – Reviewing the LSS legend for heighted features; Creating a new survey and converting Esri Ascii grid data; adding a background map. 
  • Session 2 – Converting a 2-D DXF file; Visability by Query commands; creating a visibility map by radiating lines. 
  • Session 3 – Creating a visual impact maps for numbers of features, heights of features.

LSS - Plotting Plans and Sections

This course is based on the VISTA level of LSS and is aimed at users who want to plot plans and sections and export to AutoCAD. 

The course covers the use and adapting of the LSS Description Files – Plan (.PDF) Section (.SDF) and AutoCAD (.ADF) and includes the plotting of Sections to LSS Load file, which enables sections to be viewed and edited in LSS. 

Requirements

This is a course for LSS VISTA users who have attended the LSS Introduction and  Intermediate courses who want to look at plotting to Adobe Acrobat and exporting to AutoCAD in more detail. 

The course covers the use and adapting of the LSS Description Files – Plan (.PDF) Section (.SDF) and AutoCAD (.ADF) and includes the plotting of Sections to LSS Load file, which enables sections to be viewed and edited in LSS. 

What will I learn?

  • Session 1 – Configuring Reporting and Comparing the LSS Legend; Controlling the Display; Annotating the Survey.
  • Session 2 – The LSS Plan Description File and commands; Plotting an LSS DTM Survey to Adobe Acrobat PDF.

LSS Bespoke Engineers

This course is based on any level of LSS (LSS Solo, LSS Vista or LSS Elite). It is particularly suited to organisations who have a specific set of requirements and feel that one of our 'off-the-shelf' courses may not quite fit the bill. The advantage of our Bespoke course is that you can train up to 5 people for £750 plus VAT. Additional costs (travel and subsistence) will be charged if we come to you to do the training and will be included in any quote you receive from us. Each additional trainee will be charged at £100 per person per day up to a maximum agreed by us at the time of booking.

Course content by arrangement.
Client to provide a written summary of aims / subjects to be covered and a brief synopsis of each trainee. This allows training to be tailored to their experience.
Client to provide relevant data (and explanations) with which trainees are familiar one week before the course.
